Apple may rely on Google’s Gemini to power its upcoming Siri upgrade, according to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman. The overhaul, which is expected to include an AI-powered web search tool, has been delayed until 2026 as Apple struggles to refine its own models. The company has been under pressure to keep up with competitors such as OpenAI, Perplexity, and Google.
The report claims Apple and Google reached a formal agreement this week for Apple to begin testing a Google AI model in Siri. If trials prove successful, Gemini could also support other iPhone software, including the Safari browser and Spotlight search.
Spotlight, once seen as a potential competitor to Google, allowed iPhone users to bypass traditional web searches for basic information. But with AI chatbots now offering instant answers to a wide range of questions, Apple is seeking to modernize its tools.
The revamped Siri experience is expected to feature text, images, video, local points of interest, and AI-generated summaries. It may also integrate personal data and enable broader voice navigation across Apple devices.
