Meta’s Threads Introduces Long-Form Text Attachments

Threads, Meta’s social media platform, is testing a new feature that allows users to attach longer blocks of text to a post, Meta confirmed to TechCrunch. This approach removes the need to create multiple posts to share in-depth ideas.

The feature, first spotted by Radu Oncescu on iOS, provides users with styling tools to share deeper thoughts, news snippets, book excerpts, and more. Threads users like Robert P. Nickson have shared examples, displaying text in a gray box that viewers can click to read fully.

Long-form support could help retain writers and creators who want more visibility for content that would otherwise appear on blogs or platforms like Substack. Unlike X, which offers “Articles” only to Premium subscribers, Threads’ feature is accessible to all users, at least during testing.Currently, only text is supported, but Meta may consider adding multimedia support in the future. The feature complements other recent updates, including custom feeds, AI enhancements, and fediverse integration, as Threads continues to compete with X, which has over 600 million monthly active users.
